It’s Christmas! And during the holidays, it’s always fun to watch some classic Christmas movies — so that’s exactly what we did on Christmas Eve 🎅🏼
The Holiday is an American romantic comedy set during the Christmas season. The story follows two women who have both just come out of difficult relationships. Through an online home-swap website, they decide to exchange houses for the holidays.
Iris (Kate Winslet) is in love with a colleague who doesn’t truly return her feelings, and she finds herself stuck in a pattern where she keeps putting others before herself.
Amanda (Cameron Diaz) is a successful advertising executive from Los Angeles who, after a breakup, realizes she struggles with emotional intimacy.
Both women want to step away from their everyday lives to reconnect with themselves — so they agree to temporarily swap homes. Iris ends up in Amanda’s luxurious villa in California, surrounded by sunshine and the world of film. Amanda travels to a small, charming English village, complete with snow, quiet streets, and cozy countryside life.
In their new environments, they are confronted with new encounters and unexpected friendships, personal insights about what they truly want in a relationship, and the difference between romantic fantasy and genuine connection. The film is less about “will it work out or not?” and more about emotional growth, self-love, and learning to open up again — all wrapped in a warm, wintery atmosphere full of humor and charm.

Het is kerst! En tijdens kerst is het meestal toch wel leuk om wat oudere kerstfilms te kijken! Dus dat is precies wat wij hebben gedaan op kerstavond 🎅🏼
The Holiday is een Amerikaanse romantische komedie die zich afspeelt rond de kerstperiode. Het verhaal volgt twee vrouwen die allebei net een relatie hebben zien stuklopen. Ze besluiten – via een online huisswap – voor de feestdagen hun huizen te ruilen.
Iris (Kate Winslet) is verliefd op een collega die haar gevoelens niet echt beantwoordt. Ze voelt zich vastzitten in een patroon waarin ze zichzelf steeds wegcijfert.
Amanda (Cameron Diaz) is een succesvolle reclamespecialist uit Los Angeles die na een mislukte relatie beseft dat ze moeite heeft met emotionele nabijheid.

De film draait minder om “zal het lukken of niet?” en meer om emotionele groei, zelfliefde en opnieuw durven openstaan voor anderen — allemaal in een warme, winterse sfeer vol humor en charme.
