It’s a film I basically grew up with, partly thanks to my dad who was a funeral director.
And honestly, it’s really good – I genuinely think it’s great!
So creatively made… maybe even based on a real vision? Who knows, maybe this is how it really works… who’s to say?
To me, it’s a classic that you really should have seen at least once.
It doesn’t fall directly under the “horror” category, but it’s definitely a bit creepy – though there’s also some humor in it (at least I think so). The pacing is solid and well thought out.

Here’s a short summary of the film:
Final Destination follows teenager Alex Browning, who is about to fly to Paris on a school trip with his classmates. Just before takeoff, Alex has a terrifying vision: the plane will explode shortly after takeoff. In a panic, he causes a disturbance, resulting in him being removed from the flight along with a few classmates and a teacher.
Moments later – to everyone’s shock – the plane explodes just as he predicted.
At first, Alex and the others are relieved they survived, but their luck quickly turns. The survivors begin dying one by one in bizarre and chilling ways. Alex realizes that Death has a plan – a kind of invisible force trying to restore the natural order. With the help of Clear Rivers and the eerie mortician Bludworth, he tries to uncover the patterns behind these deaths.
As the tension rises, Alex comes to understand that death cannot be stopped… but maybe it can be tricked.
Each new death is a macabre chain reaction of seemingly random events leading to a fatal end.
Final Destination explores the idea of fate and the inevitability of death, creating a constant sense of paranoia and suspense.
The film ends on an open note – leaving space for multiple sequels.

The movie was originally based on a rejected X-Files script. Writers Wong, Glen Morgan, and Jeffrey Reddick all previously worked on The X-Files, and the idea for Final Destination was originally meant to be an episode of that show.
Tony Todd, who plays Bludworth, appears in later films as well and is often seen as the “voice” of Death.
The film now has a total of six sequels.
Almost every scene contains subtle clues about who’s going to die next – which makes rewatching extra fun.
Right now, my boyfriend and I are rewatching all the movies before we go see the newest one (Part 6) in the cinema!

Het is een film waar ik een beetje mee ben groot gebracht, mede dankzij mijn vader die uitvaartbegeleider was.
En hij is echt goed, ik vind hem echt goed! Creatief bedacht, of misschien wel met een visioen? Wie weet werkt het echt zo… wie zal het zeggen.
Ik vind het een klassieker die je eigenlijk wel gezien moet hebben, hij valt niet onder ‘horror’ maar hij is wel een beetje eng maar toch zit er ook humor in (vind ik) en het verloop gaat keurig.

Aanvankelijk zijn Alex en de anderen opgelucht dat ze het ongeluk hebben overleefd, maar hun geluk blijkt van korte duur. De overlevenden sterven namelijk één voor één op bizarre en angstaanjagende wijze. Alex komt erachter dat de dood een plan heeft – een soort onzichtbare kracht die de natuurlijke orde wil herstellen. Hij probeert met behulp van Clear Rivers en de mysterieuze lijkschouwer Bludworth de patronen van de dood te ontrafelen.
De spanning loopt op wanneer Alex beseft dat de dood niet zomaar te stoppen is, maar misschien wel om de tuin te leiden valt. Elke nieuwe sterfgeval is een macaber schouwspel waarbij kleine, ogenschijnlijk toevallige gebeurtenissen leiden tot een fatale afloop.
Final Destination speelt met het idee van voorbestemming en het onvermijdelijke lot, wat zorgt voor een constante sfeer van paranoia en spanning. De film eindigt met een open einde, wat ruimte gaf voor meerdere vervolgen.
En nog wat leuke weetjes:
Gebaseerd op een afgewezen “X-Files”-script. De schrijvers (Wong, Glen Morgan, Jeffrey Reddick) werkten eerder aan The X-Files, en het concept van Final Destination was oorspronkelijk bedoeld als aflevering voor die serie.
Tony Todd, die Bludworth speelt, verschijnt ook in latere delen en wordt vaak gezien als de “stem” van de dood.
De film heeft inmiddels 6 vervolgen.
In bijna elke scène zijn subtiele hints te vinden over wie de volgende zal sterven, wat het herbekijken interessant maakt.
Momenteel zijn mijn vriend en ik dus alle delen aan het kijken voordat we het nieuwste deel ( 6 ) gaan kijken in de bioscoop!
