This documentary caught my attention because it was reportedly removed from Netflix due to controversy… which, of course, made me want to watch it even more 😜

The documentary Root Cause is a controversial film from 2019, directed by Frazer Bailey. It claims that root canal treatments can lead to serious health issues, including chronic illness and even cancer.

The film follows the director’s personal journey, in which he says his health problems disappeared after he had a root canal-treated tooth removed. From there, it builds its case through interviews and claims such as:
🦷 Bacteria left behind in a treated tooth can produce toxins
🦷 These toxins may spread throughout the body and cause chronic disease
🦷 Modern dentistry may underestimate or ignore these risks

The documentary also references older, “controversial” dental theories (such as the “focal infection theory”) and features “alternative” practitioners who support these ideas.

Why was it removed from Netflix?
Netflix pulled the documentary shortly after its release. Personally, I believe this was an attempt to suppress certain truths, protect established medical and pharmaceutical interests, and avoid panic or a loss of trust in conventional healthcare.

That said, I had already started losing my trust in conventional healthcare for some time—just like what we’re seeing in the food industry, as mentioned in this post!

Important nuance
It’s still “important” to know that:
😅 Major organizations like the American Dental Association and the American Association of Endodontists strongly dispute the claims made in the documentary
😅 According to current scientific consensus, root canal treatments are considered safe and effective
😅 Netflix removed the film after criticism from medical professionals over misleading health information—not officially due to censorship

So… take from it what you will. I personally found it to be a very interesting documentary, and if you ask ChatGPT the right questions in the right way, you can get some pretty interesting answers 😉

For what it’s worth, I did ask my dentist for a new panoramic X-ray… so to be continued!

Thanks for reading 🩷
