My First Thoughts on Everwood 🌲📺

My sweet sister actually recommended this show to me. Generally, we have pretty different tastes in shows, but when she mentioned it was an older series, I got curious. 🤔

And this is truly my very first impression—I’ve only watched the first episode so far! 🎬 Honestly, it was a bit depressing. The mother passes away, and the father and kids pack up and move to an unfamiliar small town. 😔💔
But despite that, it was quite enjoyable to watch. I could easily empathize with both the father and the son. Plus, it’s beautifully filmed! 🎥✨ I even had some tears in the end of the first episode!

The Story 🏔️💼
Dr. Andrew “Andy” Brown is an incredibly busy, world-renowned neurosurgeon from New York. He lives for his work, until his wife suddenly dies in a car crash. Completely torn apart by grief and guilt—because he was never there for his family—he decides to completely change his life. 🔄👨‍👧‍👦

He packs up their things and moves with his two kids to Everwood, an idyllic but quirky mountain town in Colorado. His goal? To become a better father and open a simple, free medical practice. 🏥🌄

However, this doesn’t go down well with his kids, especially his 15-year-old son, Ephram. Ephram is a talented pianist who deeply resents his father for never being around. His 9-year-old sister, Delia, is also having a really hard time with the move. 🎹👦👧

Why It Stands Out 🌟❤️
What makes this series unique is, among other things, the strained relationship between the father and son, which leads to a lot of awkward yet highly relatable moments. 🙌
It also feels like everyone has a reason for what they do; there aren’t really any loose ends. Everyone makes mistakes, and everyone grows. 🌱

This show is often called a hidden gem. It originally ran from 2002 to 2006, spanning 4 seasons and 89 episodes. 💎⏳
Even though it was labeled as a “teen drama” back then, it tackled some really heavy and progressive themes for its time. Think about grief, depression, teen pregnancy, abortion, euthanasia, and STDs. It was always handled in a respectful, realistic way, without ever feeling preachy. 🙏✨ (I defenitely spoiled it for myself here 😅)

I also read online that Everwood was canceled due to a TV network merger, but luckily the creators saw it coming, so they gave the series a “beautiful and satisfying” ending… and I love that! 🏆❤️

Who’s Who? 🎭👥
Treat Williams plays the famous Dr. Andrew Brown. (Sadly, he has since passed away.) 🕊️
Gregory Smith plays the doctor’s son, Ephram Brown. 🎹
Vivien Cardone plays the doctor’s daughter, Delia Brown. 👧
And of course, there are some other key characters:
Tom Amandes plays Dr. Harold Abbott. 🩺
Merrilyn Gann plays Harold’s wife, Rose Abbott. 👩
Chris Pratt plays Harold’s son, Bright Abbott. 👦
Emily VanCamp plays Harold’s daughter, Amy Abbott. 👩🏼

I think this will be a nice, cozy show to take my time with. Definitely a bit calmer than It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, haha! ☀️🦅
