Of all the books I’ve read before by Ryan Holiday (Ego is the enemy, Stilness is the key, Discipline is destiny, Lives of the stoics, The obstacle is the way & Daily stoic) I found this one a bit more difficult to get through. But that could have to do with my poor concentration at the moment due to my period.

Right Thing, Right Now revolves around one powerful question: what is the right thing to do – here and now? Ryan Holiday shows that ethics and good action are not an abstract philosophy, but something very practical and everyday.

Ryan emphasizes that doing the right thing doesn’t depend on applause, status, or success. On the contrary: the right thing is often difficult, uncomfortable or invisible.
He encourages us to act out of integrity, justice, courage and self-control, even (or right) when no one is looking.

With many short stories and examples, from historical figures to modern situations, he shows that real strength lies in character. The book exudes optimism: everyone can choose to act better, more honestly and more humanely, regardless of circumstances. Not later, not ever, but now.

The key message is hopeful and activating:
☝🏼 You always have a choice.
☝🏼 Doing well is a muscle you can train.
☝🏼 By doing the right thing, you’re building a life you can be proud of.

In short: Right Thing, Right Now is an inspiring compass for those who want to be more conscious, calmer and morally stronger in life – step by step, decision by decision. 🌱

Some things I underlined :

Because that’s what justice should be – not a noun but a verb. Something we do, not something we get.
β€’ We must understand: justice is not this thing we demand of other people, but something we demand of ourselves.
β€’ Loyalty does not mean protecting people from the consequences of their actions.

And ofcourse I highlighted the part where Ryan speaks of Albert Schweitzer, because he is part of my family.

I recommand this book, just as much as his other books!

Thanks for reading 🩷
