The book I couldn’t finish reading… 😅
Here’s a little bit of what’s on the back of the book, which also sparked my interest:
The consequences of trauma can be devastating for those affected, their families, and future generations. Here, one of the world’s leading experts in traumatic stress offers a bold new approach to treatment, stepping away from standard talk and medication-based therapies. Instead, an alternative method is chosen that heals the mind, brain, and body.
There are also some reviews by other authors. But as you might’ve guessed, there are a lot of technical terms in it — nothing wrong with that of course, but I do find it a bit harder to read sometimes. (And I read it in English too.)
Out of the 430 pages, I made it to page 378, so I definitely passed the halfway point, but I kept looking things up to understand them… As I got further into it, even more technical terms were thrown in 🤓
A few things I did underline:
• Imagination is absolutely essential to the quality of our lives. Our imagination allows us to escape everyday existence by fantasizing about travel, food, sex, falling in love, or having the last word — all the things that make life interesting.
• You can only truly take control of your life when you acknowledge the reality of your body, in all its physical dimensions.
• Just the possibility of escape does not necessarily mean that traumatized people or animals will take the path to freedom. Instead of risking the exploration of new options, they remain stuck in the fear they know.
It really is an interesting book, and maybe if I read it in Dutch, I’d actually finish it… but yeah, sometimes a book just ends up being one of those that I don’t get through.
Even I don’t finish every book I start 🤷🏼♀️
Thanks for reading 🩷
