Okay, so ever since I became mildly obsessed with High Potential and then realized I can’t keep watching because the new season is still being filmed 😭
I started digging through all the movies and shows Steve Howey has appeared in. (his voice…😍) And somehow, that search led me to this movie …
Small spoiler alert though: Steve shows up for like… a minute after the movie has already been going for an hour 😂
He did look very good, not gonna lie, but honestly? It was probably not worth watching the entire movie just for that…
So, Day Shift is basically an action-comedy packed with vampires, insanely over-the-top fight scenes, and a lot of dry humor. The story follows Bud Jablonski, played by Jamie Foxx, a hardworking guy in Los Angeles who pretends to be a pool cleaner. In reality, he spends his days hunting vampires for cash 🧛♂️💰
He’s trying to make enough money to give his daughter a good life and stop his ex-wife from moving away with their kid.
Things get complicated when Bud ends up in trouble with a powerful vampire out for revenge, while also being forced to work again with the vampire hunters’ union that previously kicked him out. On top of that, he gets paired with Seth, played by Dave Franco, an awkward and super nervous union rep who creates some genuinely funny moments throughout the movie 👏🏼
The movie mostly focuses on:
• crazy stunt and fight scenes 💥
• quick humor
• a mix of horror and buddy-cop action 👀
• and a light, almost video game-style vampire universe 🎮🧛
Don’t expect some deep philosophical masterpiece here — this is very much a popcorn movie with nonstop action and creative vampire kills.
One thing I did enjoy was that the movie opens with two classic American cars 😍 And Bud driving an old Chevy definitely earned bonus points from me 🚘
I also had absolutely no idea Snoop Dogg was in this movie, which honestly made the whole thing way funnier than expected.
But overall… I’m not really a fan of this film. It all felt kind of random…
There was alot of action, blood, and fighting, but not a whole lot of logic behind anything 🤨
Like… apparently normal people can’t see vampires in vampire mode? I think? Because their reflection disappears? But Bud can still see them just fine? And there’s massive destruction happening everywhere with basically no explanation 😂
I could probably keep going with all the little “wait… how does that even work?” moments, but I’ll spare you.
That said, there were definitely some funny scenes mixed in.
But I did learn an important lesson from this experience: always check whether the actor you’re watching for actually has a major role before committing to an entire movie 😅😭
Thanks for reading, and now I’m curious — what did you think of Day Shift? 🤔
